Philip during Kata seminar in 2016

I've started training in August of 2015. Fairly a beginner with Kendo and taking these small steps has encouraged me to go further; in learning both the science and the art. From prepping the training gear to the dojo etiquette, everything has a certain way that teaches me not only the sword techniques but humility and discipline (e.g. hakama folding is like origami).

I will continue my Kendo training as I would like to be an example to my kid (and those born after him), how this martial art shapes character and develops a well focused mind. And you get to meet very interesting people along the way.

Philip is one of our members who clearly demonstrates how one's mindset shifts from being inside the dojo and outside of it. In the dojo, Philip concentrates on how to better his Kendo and participates in our events. Apart from his Kendo development, he ensures to assist in our activities by sharing his talent with the club. As one of the contributors in our collection of photos, he takes photographs during events such as our tournaments, celebrations and casual gatherings whether he's participating or visiting.
