WHAT TO EXPECT
The Beginner's Class is an introductory class to kendo, providing the necessary fundamentals of learning and practicing Kendo safely and properly.
The class will consist of the basic trainings such as the understanding and practicing of proper decorum in the training ground (dojo) which includes etiquette and manners (reigi-saho) in standing, bowing, sitting, etc., posture (shizentai) and basic kendo drills like footwork (ashisabaki), swinging (suburi) and the basic concept of ki-ken-tai-ichi (spirit-sword-body as one).
After the completion of beginners class, kendokas will move to Intermediate Class where the lessons taught in beginners class will be demonstrated in full kendo body armor (bogu).
Beginner's are required to use a bamboo sword (shinai) during practice. Uniforms can be availed later on. Armors are only necessary in Intermediate Class (upon teacher's approval).
